Lindsey Vonn continues to update people on her recovery journey after fracturing her tibia while competing at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.
On Feb. 20, the Olympic skier posted X-rays of her leg after her most recent surgery, as well as photos of herself in her hospital bed. Vonn, 41, also wrote that she has been “struggling a bit” after her procedures.
“Made it through surgery… it took a bit more than 6 hours to complete,” Vonn wrote on Instagram. “As you can see, it required a lot of plates and screws to put back together but Dr Hackett did an incredible job. Thank you Dr Viola for the surgery assist as well!!”
The athlete continued, writing that with the extent of the trauma she’s suffered, “I’ve been struggling a bit post op and have not yet been able to be discharged from the hospital just yet… almost there. Baby steps.”
Vonn ended her message by writing that she will explain her injury “and what it all means soon.”
Her latest post comes days after she was able to return back to the U.S. from Italy. Vonn was transported home in a hospital bed, with the athlete saying that she hasn’t stood on her feet in over a week and has been “immobile since” her race.
Vonn was competing in the downhill final on Feb. 8 when she crashed just 13.4 seconds into the race. She was airlifted off the course by a helicopter and rushed to the hospital.
Prior to her crash, Vonn had ruptured her ACL during the Jan. 30 World Cup event. However, she noted that her ACL injury did not cause her Olympics accident.
Since then, she’s been sharing updates on her Instagram, letting her followers know that while her “leg is still in pieces,” she appreciates all the love and support.
