Heartbreaking Moment on 'Today': Savannah Guthrie's Emotional Breakdown

Heartbreaking Moment on 'Today': Savannah Guthrie's Emotional Breakdown

“It was a sad day,” behind the scenes of the “Today” show on Tuesday, as Savannah Guthrie broke down in tears while discussing the ransom note her family received in February allegedly claiming her missing mom, Nancy Guthrie, had died.“A lot of people at ‘Today’ are affected by it,” says a source. “There was a sense of sadness today. Everybody just feels so bad for her. There is a lot of uncertainty.” We’re told Guthrie has been surrounded by support as she continues to navigate the unimaginable ordeal.Savannah Guthrie broke down in tears on Tuesday’s “Today” show. Today Show/NBC“There is a lot of admiration and praise for her that she is still able to do her job,” says our source. “People really support her and care about her, and people are heartbroken.”During the show, Guthrie said she had “no comment” on the headlines and is “not involved in … coverage” of her mother’s abduction, but that she couldn’t “pretend” to not be present for the conversation.“I just wanted to take the opportunity to really ask people and really beg people to come forward because somebody knows something,” Guthrie continued. The journalist was on air after a segment describing a February ransom note that claimed her missing mom, Nancy Guthrie (pictured above in June 2023), has died. TODAY / NBC“This is a news story today that is on your radar, but this is the life my sister, [Annie Guthrie], lives, that I live, that my brother, [Camron Guthrie], lives, that our extended families live, that our children live every day,” she explained.“We cannot be at peace,” the journalist said. “No matter how much I try to come out here every day and smile and find that joy — and I will, I promise I will — this is a moment to say we need your help. … I’m not gonna miss that opportunity.”Guthrie ended her emotional plea with a promise: “We love our mom, and we’ll never stop looking for her. Ever.”We are told people are “heartbroken” but also “admire” Guthrie for being able to come back to work. GC ImagesShe returned to the show in April after going on hiatus following her mother’s disappearance. GC ImagesGurthrie was surround by colleagues Craig Melvin, Al Roker, Carson Daly and Jenna Bush Hager.“The bravery and courage with which you have done this job every day since that happened is nothing short of remarkable,” Melvin said.Savannah took a brief hiatus from the show after her mother went missing from her Arizona home on Feb. 1. She returned in April. Guthrie pleaded for people to come forward. TODAY / NBCSources close to the investigation told Air Mail over the weekend that a ransom note, believed to be credible, referred to the 84-year-old as “safe but scared” hours after her disappearance — and demanded $6 million in Bitcoin. The second, which came from the same IP address days later, indicated that Nancy had passed.Savannah told Hoda Kotb in March that she “tend[s] to believe” the two notes that she and her siblings “responded to” in emotional social media pleas were, in fact, “real.”There have been no arrests. Police did detain Derrick Callella for allegedly attempting to extort with fake ransom texts. The 42-year-old faces federal charges.

Taylor Swift's Wedding Guest List Sparks Buzz: Why Blake Lively Is Missing

Taylor Swift's Wedding Guest List Sparks Buzz: Why Blake Lively Is Missing

As Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding day approaches, multiple sources have confirmed to Us Weekly that Swift’s once-close friend Blake Lively did not receive an invitation to the pair’s nuptials. “Blake understands why she wouldn't be invited and that it would be a media frenzy,” an insider exclusively tells Us Weekly. “She also understands that she and Taylor don't have the same level of friendship they once had. She isn't upset about not being invited, but of course, she would love to be there to support her and Travis.” Swift, 36, and Lively, 38, experienced a falling out after the pop star’s name was dragged into the contentious legal battle between the actress and her It Ends With Us director and costar Justin Baldoni. Lively and Baldoni, 42, reached a settlement out of court earlier this month, bringing their 18-month legal drama to an end. The insider adds that Lively is “at peace” with how things “played out” between her and Swift, noting that the Gossip Girl alum has “put that chapter behind her.” Still, the friends are taking space from each other. “They haven't been in touch in several months, and their last correspondence was only a few casual texts back and forth,” the insider concludes. “That is the extent of their friendship.” Us Weekly reached out to reps for Lively and Swift for comment. During Lively’s battle with Baldoni, which began in December 2024 when the A Simple Favor star filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the Five Feet Apart director, personal text messages between Lively and Swift were made public. A source previously told Us that the situation was “really hard” for Swift. “Having her texts out there made her feel exposed and kind of violated, like, something private suddenly wasn’t hers anymore,” the source shared. “That doesn’t sit well with her.” Lively’s lawyer Sigrid McCawley said in January that the actress has “done everything she can to protect her friends from not being brought into this.” “It was the Baldoni parties who brought that evidence into this case. It’s not relevant. What’s relevant is her claims that she was sexually harassed in the workplace and the witnesses are there to see that,” he said at the time. (Baldoni denied the sexual harassment allegations and filed a countersuit against Lively, which was dismissed in 2025.) Now, Swift is preparing to say “I do” to Kelce, 36, whom she began dating in summer 2023. The pair got engaged last August. While the exact location and date of the wedding have yet to be confirmed, Swift and her NFL star fiancé are rumored to be set to tie the knot during the upcoming July 4 holiday weekend. One popular theory suggests that the couple will wed at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Mayor Zohran Mamdani fueled the speculation during a June 15 press conference. “I am fully confident in the work of the NYPD, as well as our state partners, in delivering that safe experience,” he told reporters. “We are the biggest city in the country. We are used to big events, and we are incredibly excited for the [World Cup]. We know it coincides with the Knicks’ [NBA] Finals run. We know it coincides with July 4, America 250, Taylor Swift’s wedding — all happening at the same time — and we are so excited to welcome the world here.”

Jelly Roll's Past Catches Up: Ex Pleads Guilty in Shocking Court Turn

Jelly Roll's Past Catches Up: Ex Pleads Guilty in Shocking Court Turn

Jelly Roll’s ex-girlfriend Felicia Beckwith has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge following her 2025 drug arrest, Us Weekly can exclusively confirm. Washington County court records confirm that Beckwith pleaded guilty to possession of less than 0.5 grams of fentanyl, which classified as a schedule II drug, on June 18. All other charges were dropped. Us can also confirm via the Washington County court clerk that Beckwith was given a sentence of three years supervised probation. Beckwith, who is the mother of Jelly Roll’s 18-year-old daughter, Bailee, was arrested in February 2025 alongside two additional individuals in possession of drugs, guns and cash. According to a March 2025 press release from the Washington County Sheriff's Office in Tennessee, deputies initiated a traffic stop for Beckwith, 37, and the other individuals. Law enforcement found a pistol in the driver's door, drug paraphernalia and cash on the others’ persons. There was a total of 52 grams of Methamphetamine, pills and 12 grams of a white powder substance, which authorities believed to be Fentanyl, found in the car. Beckwith was in possession of one bag that contained portions of the Methamphetamine, the alleged Fentanyl and pills. Following the traffic stop, law enforcement obtained a search warrant for a residence believed to be associated with one of the other individuals in the car with Beckwith. Police found 291 grams of Methamphetamine, 16 and a half grams of a substance that was either Methamphetamine or Fentanyl and seven sets of scales at the home. There were also three loaded handguns found. One of the firearms had the serial number removed. Beckwith and the two individuals were arrested and transported to the Washington County Detention Center. Beckwith was charged with manufacture/delivery/sell/possession of Methamphetamine, schedule II drug violations, two counts of simple possession/casual exchange and unlawful drug paraphernalia. Jelly Roll, 41, and Beckwith dated before he became a country superstar. During their relationship, the pair both struggled with substance abuse and spent time in prison. Beckwith gave birth to their daughter while Jelly Roll was behind bars. After welcoming Bailee, Jelly Roll turned his life around to be there for his child. “I’ve never had nothing in life that urged me in the moment to know that I had to do something different. I have to figure this out right now,” he recalled of learning he was a dad during a 2023 interview with Billboard. However, the journey to fatherhood wasn’t easy for the “Son of a Sinner” musician. Jelly Roll, who also shares son Noah with ex Melissa Ann Cowell, went to court to fight for custody of Bailee. He and Bunnie Xo were ultimately granted custody in 2017 and Bailee has since graduated from high school. (Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo called it quits earlier this month after a decade of marriage.) "She made me go to court to even see [my daughter],” the singer said in his 2023 documentary Jelly Roll: Save Me. “I barely got to see her in the early years because I was traveling so much. I was a very less-than-present father."

Katie Gaudreau's Heartfelt Tribute: A New Life Amidst Tragedy

Katie Gaudreau's Heartfelt Tribute: A New Life Amidst Tragedy

Katie Gaudreau — the sister of late hockey stars Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau — has welcomed her first baby with husband Devin Joyce. The baby boy is named Matthew, an apparent tribute to her older brother. "He’s here. ," Katie, 27, announced via Instagram on Tuesday, June 23, alongside a carousel of the newborn. "Matthew Guy Joyce. June 20, 2026 • 9:00 AM • 7lb 10oz • 20inches. The moment our hearts grew bigger than we ever imagined. Welcome to the world, sweet boy. ." Katie announced her pregnancy in February, gushing via Instagram at the time, “Our favorite news to share.” In the accompanying black-and-white video, Katie held a pair of Nike baby sneakers and ultrasound photos as she embraced Joyce, 28. The parents-to-be also showed off their matching “mom” and “dad” hats. In March, Katie offered an update on her “little miracle” as she hit the 22-week mark. “This pregnancy hasn’t looked the way I imagined it would,” she captioned black-and-white Instagram photos of her baby bump. “It hasn’t been all sunshine and excitement. There’s been a lot of uncertainty. A lot of fear. It’s been a pregnancy that’s closely monitored and carefully watched, and we’ve been surrounded by so much support. And I’m so proud of this little life.” She added, “I’m incredibly thankful for the doctors who have guided us and kept such a close eye on everything and for the guardian angels I truly believe are watching over Baby Joyce.” Katie and Joyce tied the knot in July 2025, nearly one year after postponing their wedding following the deaths of her brothers, Johnny and Matthew, in an August 2024 biking accident. The hockey players were 31 and 29, respectively. Sean M. Higgins has been accused of killing Johnny and Matthew. In December 2024, Higgins was indicted on two counts of first-degree aggravated manslaughter, two counts of second-degree reckless vehicular homicide, one count of tampering with physical evidence (fourth-degree) and leaving the scene of a fatal accident (second-degree). He pleaded not guilty to the charges. Higgins admitted to drinking prior to the accident and was arrested with a blood alcohol level of 0.087. However, Higgins’ lawyer has asked a judge to dismiss the charges against him, claiming that prosecutors misled a grand jury about the defendant’s blood alcohol content. After her brothers’ deaths, Katie paid tribute to Johnny and Matthew in a touching Instagram post. “To know these two was to love these two,” she wrote in September 2024. “There are absolutely no words I have to express the bond my family shared. The entire world knows there would never have been a John without Matty or Matty without John. The absolute best big brothers a little girl could have asked for. This will never be a goodbye post because I will never stop saying your names and honoring you both.” Katie concluded by vowing to “take the best care of” their parents, sister Kristen, Johnny’s wife, Meredith, Matthew’s wife, Madeline, and her brothers’ kids. Both Meredith and Madeline were pregnant when their husbands died. Madeline gave birth to her and Matthew’s first baby, son Tripp, in December 2024. Less than four months later, Meredith welcomed her and Johnny’s son Carter in April 2025, with the couple’s third child joining their daughter, Noa, and son Johnny.

DHS Halts Controversial Georgia Detention Center Plan: What Changed?

DHS Halts Controversial Georgia Detention Center Plan: What Changed?

The Trump administration is backing away from its plans to convert a warehouse in a small Georgia city into a “mega center” holding thousands of immigration detainees, just four months after first confirming it had purchased the building. “The City of Social Circle has received notification from Congressman Mike Collins that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is no longer pursuing an ICE detention facility within the City of Social Circle,” the local government said in a statement Thursday. The department’s original plans for the facility stated it would be able to accommodate up to 10,000 detainees – nearly double the entire population of Social Circle – along with 2,000 to 2,500 employees. The federal government paid $128.5 million for the property, the deed shows. That was more than four times the $29.4 million it previously sold for in 2023. City leaders said it was not immediately clear if the government would sell the property or if it would be used for a different purpose, but they hope it ends up back in private hands. “The City is hopeful that the property will ultimately return to the local tax base and once again contribute to the economic vitality and long-term success of the Social Circle community,” the statement said. The announcement was praised by Georgia’s two US senators, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock – both Democrats who have strongly opposed the warehouse plans since they were first announced. “From the beginning, the Social Circle community united against this proposal, which risked overwhelming the city’s infrastructure,” Ossoff said in a statement. “This news proves yet again that public pressure and opposition works.” The warehouse plans drew quick and fierce opposition in Social Circle, part of a politically red county where President Donald Trump won more than 70% of the vote in the 2024 presidential election. The news comes as DHS is scrapping plans for conversion of a total of seven recently purchased warehouses into detention facilities – from Roxbury, New Jersey, to Salt Lake City, Utah – according to a report from The New York Times, citing documents it obtained. DHS began rethinking the more than $700 million program to expand immigration detention since Markwayne Mullin succeeded Kristi Noem as Homeland Security secretary, a source told CNN in April. But the administration is still not publicly giving specifics on where the program goes from here. “From day one, DHS has remained singularly focused on removing the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens from the United States and is always evaluating the best methods to do so,” a spokesperson said in a statement to CNN on Friday. “These heinous criminals, once arrested, should be removed at lightning speed, not housed on American soil at the taxpayer’s expense. DHS is moving swiftly to utilize EXISTING detention space with our state and county partners.” Social Circle City Manager Eric Taylor told CNN they believe DHS, under Mullin, “came to the same conclusion, what we’ve been trying to tell them all along: that Social Circle is not the right place for this type of facility.” Residents in Social Circle are “ecstatic” about the decision by DHS, Taylor said. “For us, this was not a partisan thing at all. We have a Republican congressman, we have Democratic senators that represent this state. We reached out to all three of them equally … and we feel that the assistance they gave us was what we expected from all three of them,” he added. “It’s a win for a small town,” city council member Tyson Jackson, whose district the facility is in, told CNN on Saturday. “We were afraid that we were going to be overpowered by the big government because we are a small town with very little dollar amounts.” Longtime resident Glenda Brown said she felt “pure relief” about the scrapped plans. “We love our town just like it is,” she said. Officials wait and watch for confirmation about other warehouses Many of the facilities involved in the plans to convert warehouses, including the one in Salt Lake City, have been the subject of lawsuits against the DHS asking judges to stop the projects. As of Friday, the government had not filed any documents in the pending cases confirming plans to back down, and officials there are watching closely. The Utah Democratic Party, which said it has not seen any documentation showing a change in DHS’s plans for the warehouse, said in part in a statement that “the decision to now sell or abandon these facilities is fiscal recklessness and an insult to every taxpayer.” “Salt Lake City is home to immigrants, refugees, and families who have built their lives here, and we will not stand by while the federal government attempts to warehouse human beings in our community like inventory,” the statement said. “Mass detention on this scale is an affront to human dignity, and that’s true no matter the cost - there is no version of this plan that belongs in our city.” Salt Lake County mayor’s office spokesperson Eric Biggart also told CNN on Friday the office did “not have confirmation from DHS on the release of this facility.” “However, we hope the reports are true as we would support a sale of the warehouse by DHS,” Biggart said. That same caution was expressed in Oakwood, Georgia, a community only 40 miles away from Social Circle where another warehouse was set to be turned into a detainee processing center. “We heard rumors of the program being shuttered in Georgia for several weeks, but we haven’t received confirmation for Oakwood’s site,” Oakwood city manager B.R. White told CNN, adding that the city “would welcome the Oakwood site closure, if it turns out to be true.” “We won’t believe it until there is an official statement plus a legitimate owner/tenant of the property moved in, to be real honest,” Ari Mathé, a local attorney who has spearheaded opposition to the Oakwood warehouse project, told CNN in an email Friday.

Joseph, 31 also requested to amend a motion banning him from being within 500 feet of the alleged victim’s former Florida home, because he said the ban interferes with his ability to do his work as a landlord in the area.
